U2 To Tour As Spiderman Musical Opens
April 13, 2011
U2, the guys behind the soundtrack of Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark, have decided to launch new tour dates to coincide with the opening of the musical on Broadway. The opening date is now set for June 2011. Last week Philip William McKinley replaced Julie Taymor as chief creative director, as the show continues to plow through controversy and change. Bono and The Edge are rumored to be adding a few belated tweaks to the musical score, as they prepare also for this rescheduled North American leg of their 2010 tour, postponed due to Bono’s back problems. Now, will you buy U2 tickets or will you buy Spiderman tickets?
Over in the UK, another superhero movie is being readied for the stage; Batman Live is scheduled to open in Manchester in July, before moving to London. At a cost of $20 million, Batman isn’t just chump change, but it’s a lot less than the $65 million that Spiderman has cost thus far. Batman will feature a batmobile designed by Formula One auto designer Gordon Murray. The sets were constructed by a Lady Gaga designer, and Harry Potter choreographer Anthony Van Laast is in control of the action sequences.
