Spiderman the Musical
Because the Spiderman Musical is still in its infancy, there is not all that much information on the production available, but there have been some very big developments on the show.
First off, the show will be directed by none other than Julie Taymor, the Broadway genius behind the groundbreaking Disney’s the Lion King musical. As Broadway fans will recall, that show broke all kinds of box-office records and was spun-off into a Lion King tour. The show pushed the limits of what could be achieved in theater, and Taymor won no less than two Tony’s for the show.
if Taymor’s involvement wasn’t enough to make you anxious for Spiderman Musical tickets, how about U2’s Bono and The Edge writing the show’s score? That’s right, everyone’s favorite Irish rockers have been tapped to pen the music for the show, so you can bet that the music will be as rockin’ as the show.
Two Broadway heavyweights have also been announced as the leading starts. Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood are rumored to be playing the leading roles of Spiderman/Peter Parker and his love interest Mary Jane Watson. Sturgess is best known for starring in the blackjack-themed film “21″ and as well as “Across the Universe,” which Taymor also directed. Wood also stared in “Across the Universe,” so you can bet the stars and directors will be working together nicely. Wood is also known for her stunning looks, being romantically involved with goth-rocker Marylin Manson and for starring in episodes of tv’s CSI and the film “Running with Scissors.”
It seems the folks over at Marvel are also exited about the show. “Marvel continues to look to every entertainment medium to support the enduring popularity of our Super Heroes and We are thrilled with the talent on board,” Marvel Chair David Maisel said. “The all-star creative team led by Julie Taymor, Bono and The Edge is second to none. . . We are certain this project will delight fans of Spider-Man and new audiences alike,” he said.
